About Us
|
The Greater Los Angeles Writers Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to mentoring writers of all levels in the craft of writing, providing continuing education and a forum for the marketing of their work. This mission is in concert with the California Writers Club, founded in 1909 by Jack London. With a philosophy of "writers mentoring writers of all disciplines" GLAWS holds monthly informative meetings, often with nationally-known guest speakers, manages critique groups, offers advice in the craft and business of writing, conducts special events, including writers conferences and seminars, and promotes its vision through many business and social opportunities. The "greater" in our name refers to the general geographic area where most of our members are located, and not to any claims of "grandness." Yes, we welcome writers from all over Southern California and the country to join our society. And yes, there is safety in numbers with an organization that has a wide variety of resources to support its membership. But, if we want to be known as "great" for anything, it's that our focus will always remain on our mission of "writers mentoring writers." We welcome all kinds of writers, from aspiring students to best-selling authors, from industry professionals to simply anyone interested in learning more about the craft.
