GLAWS Special Speaker Events are typically held the third
Saturday of the month ten times a year. If there are five Saturdays in the month, the date move back one. Sometimes, the SSE is combined with various conferences, to accommodate larger audiences. GLAWS presents educators and industry
professionals who speak on the craft and business of writing.They are open to

The business of the society is conducted under the guidance
of the Advisory Board with the approval of the Executive Board. There are an
average of fifteen members on the Advisory Board, which meets typically 3-4 times a year. Parts of the Board meet separately by committee, whenever and wherever
the business of the society requires. Members include: two attorneys and a CPA, plus Committee Chairs and Critique Group Leaders.
One may join and participate only by a
nomination by an existing member and approval of a majority of the Board. GLAWS members in good standing

GLAWS supports critique groups in many categories of writing.
Each group is run by a Manager and follows the society's approved Critique Group
Guidelines. Groups meet whenever and wherever they so decide. Some members work
by "snail-mail" and E-mail between physical meetings. Members only.
Holiday parties are held twice a year, once during the
summer (typically August) and the first Saturday of December. They consist of
a Pot Luck Lunch, Wrapped book exchange, and Open Mic reading by active member/authors.
Members only.
GLAWS participates in many events during the year, including
the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books, The West Hollywood Book Fair, and several
genre-specific event. GLAWS also has an active Bookseller Fair programs. At most
of these events, GLAWS makes space available to its author-members to increase
their platform through personal appearances, handing out literature, selling
and autographing their work.
The society also uses these events for our Hospitality
and Outreach Ambassadors to meet attendees and new prospective members to explain
the features and benefits of the society, distribute literature, and enroll
new members.

GLAWS secures booth space at various book shows and outreach opportunities for member authors. These are great opportunities for GLAWS authors to increase their platform, make new fans, and of course, sell books.
