The Greater Los Angeles Writers Society is launching a new literary publication! Unlike most writing groups, who only produce newsletters, the GLAWS publication will have a literary flavor, emphasizing members' works such as short stories, novel excerpts and poetry.

Of course, we'll also feature GLAWS announcements, relevant articles on writing and publishing, and other juicy stuff. Initially the publication will be published quarterly, then, once our gears are oiled and running, bimonthly. We are looking for:

• Short stories
• Book excerpts
• Poems
• Articles / Reviews  

Through this publication we aim to entertain, enlighten and educate. More than just a place to strut one's writerly stuff, as works and opinions are shared it will also make us more connected as a society, and provide a tangible tool for networking and guidance in your goals and growth as a writer.

It's a great opportunity for you to get your writing published and receive public recognition.

There is NO reading fee. Only members in good standing may submit.

Please to note, even though we're a writing family here at GLAWS, realistically we can't publish everything. Since we'd rather not get bogged down in editing, we prefer the work be well-polished, meaning it's several drafts old and/or has been critiqued by several other peers. If possible, it's recommended you run your piece through your critique group before submitting.

Guidelines:

• We have no strict word-count policy. Over 500 and less than 3,000 are preferred.  

• We don't discriminate against any genre, but we will be looking for material that resonate on a broad base.

• It may be in the areas of:
  • The Craft of Writing
  • Fiction
  • Non-fiction
  • Biographical
  • Science Fiction / Fantasy
  • Travel
  • Journalistic
  • Related to a screenplay or stage
  • Educational
  • Young Adult
  • Self-improvement or motivational
  • Romance
  • Memoir
  • Or...surprise our editor with something creative!

• Open to most subjects, except:
  • Nothing that might offend other readers (think “uplifting” or “encouraging”)
  • Nothing overly-erotic or political (this is not a soap-box)
  • Nothing excessively self-promotional

The Name: since "The Official Publication of the Greater L.A. Writers Society " is somewhat of an uninspired mouthful, we need a good main title! Send in your suggestions and we'll decide which one to use. The best suggestion will garner a free year's membership!
