"The Fine Art of Drawing Pictures with Words"

Morgan St James at the Greater Los Angeles Writers SocietyNarrative can be flat and as boring as a laundry list, or use the many elements of a scene to draw a word picture that will transport a reader into your world. The technique of painting a picture with words involves making it dimensional by using sounds, aromas, climate, emotions. Rather than a cardboard cutout, it gives the reader a full image of the scene as it moves the story along. It is a question of balance—too little and it misses the mark, too much and it sounds phony and unbelievable.

Renown author and lecturer Morgan St James used a terrific A/V presentation to explore the use of words to make characters and places come alive, a true art.

Event held: Saturday, June 26, 3:00 pm
Palms-Rancho Park Library in the Ray Bradbury Room.
2920 Overland Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90064
